12th St John’s Scouts Celebrates 30 show stopping years

12th Royal Tunbridge Wells St Johns Scout Group celebrated it’s 30th birthday in style by putting on a spectacular show for the community. On Saturday 1st February 120 Beavers, Cubs & Scouts took to the stage at St John’s School, with each section performing skits, music and dances that brought to life the fun, friendship and skills that are rooted in the Scout Association’s philosophy. As well as the fantastic performances, a raffle was held & refreshments sold to raise vital funds for the group. The cutting of a bespoke St Johns Scout themed cake topped the celebration and was enjoyed by each member.

The event was organised by the Assistant Group Scout Leader, Nicole Batchelor, and raised over £800 for the group. Commenting on the event, Nicole said “We wanted to do something special for celebrate this great milestone for our group. The celebration was the idea of the Group Scout Leader, Nick Bottle, who knows only too well how much scouting has meant to him since he was a child”. Nicole went on to say “St Johns Scout Group has such a vibrant, diverse and mixed selection of young people from all walks of life and the leaders wanted to show that with a little help, there really are no boundaries or obstacles the young people cannot overcome”.

Nick Bottle commented “over the past 30 years we have had a large number of young people go through the group, the current generation of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts did their predecessors proud. They produced a show which really was youth lead and showed a great range of performances and skills. I am incredibly proud of them all and what they achieved, my personal thanks to the leadership team, people who donated prizes, St John’s School and family/friends connected to the group who supported us in a number of ways.”

The group is expanding and currently looking for more adult volunteers to join their existing vibrant and passionate team. Anyone interested in finding out more about the rewards volunteering can offer at the Scout Group can make contact via https://stjohnsscoutstw.org/contact/
