Our waiting list explained…

In Tunbridge Wells a District-wide waiting list is in operation. When you complete the TW District registration form, an online record is created and this will be shared with the nearest scout group to you (or your preferred group if you choose to specify one when you first log in).

Once we have received your record at 12th St John’s it will be added to one of 2 lists:

1. Under six waiting list

This is for young people from birth to six years old waiting to begin their journey with 12th St John’s Scout Group as a Beaver Scout. Join the list by completing the TW District registration form and then indicating ‘St John’s’ as your preferred group once your record is created.

At the end of each term, the Leadership team establishes whether there are any spaces available for the next term and then offers places to 6-year olds on the waiting list according to the following criteria:

  1. Those who currently have a sibling in the Group
  2. Those who have a parent/carer who actively assists the Group
  3. Length of time on the Group waiting list

In the event a space is turned down, it will be offered to the next person on the list based on the criteria above.

Please note that our Group continues to be over-subscribed and having a young person on the waiting list is no guarantee of a place. Anyone who is not able to be offered a place in Beavers is carried over to our over six waiting list.

2. Over six waiting list

We accept anyone onto this waiting list from age 7 to 13 years’ old. Join the list by completing the TW District registration form and then indicating ‘St John’s’ as your preferred group once your record is created.

Should a place come up in Cubs or Scouts, the list is reviewed and a space is offered according to the same criteria as above.

Please note, spaces only very rarely become available in Cubs and Scouts. We are in touch with groups across the Tunbridge Wells Scout District so that if we cannot offer a space, an alternative Group with spaces available may be recommended so that a young person’s scouting journey is not delayed.
