Join Us- Young Person

2019 - Beavers AGM 04712th St John’s Scout Group currently has 3 units spread across 3 age groups-

Beavers for 6-8 year olds

Cubs Packs 1 & 2 for 8-10.5 year olds

Scouts for 10.5-14 year olds

After the age of 14 our young people are connected with Explorer units across Tunbridge Wells District and join these.

If you would like your young person to join us we operate two waiting lists –

  1. Under 6
  2. Over 6

Under 6

We accept anyone onto this waiting list from age 0-6 years old. They can join the waiting list by completing the online form on the Tunbridge Wells District Scout Website-

https://www.onlinescoutmanager.co.uk/waiting-list/royal-tunbridge-wells-district-waiting-list/dc5fe8d8-bc68-42f1-a176-d4e162a82651/apply

Having a young person on the waiting list is no guarantee of a space. Towards the end of each term we look to see if we have any spaces available for the next term. We then look at the list of those who are 6 or due to be 6 within in a month or two surrounding the start of the new term. We then allocate places based on the following criteria:

  1. Do they currently have a sibling in the group?
  2. Do they have an parent/adult who currently assists the group?
  3. How long have they been on the group waiting list?

Places are then offered based on those criteria.

Those that are successful are then contacted and a space is offered. If any of these spaces are turned down then they are offered to the next person on the list based on the criteria. If there is anyone left who is not offered a space they are placed onto our over 6 waiting list.

Over 6

We accept anyone onto this waiting list from age 6-13 years old. They can join the waiting list by completing the online form on the Tunbridge Wells District Scout Website-

https://www.onlinescoutmanager.co.uk/waiting-list/royal-tunbridge-wells-district-waiting-list/dc5fe8d8-bc68-42f1-a176-d4e162a82651/apply

On receiving the application the young person is added to the over 6 waiting list. Should a place come up in Beavers, Cubs or Scouts we then review the list and email the next person according to the criteria above and who

  • Is the correct age for that unit
  • Has been on the list the longest

If they turn the place down, the place is then offered to the next person who fits this criteria. The group is constantly growing and we are always trying to offer spaces where we can. We are also in touch with groups across the Tunbridge Wells Scout District, so that if we cannot offer a space, an alternative group with spaces available may be offered.
